The Rental Assistance Benefit is intended to assist households in need to obtain affordable and suitable rental housing accommodations by subsidizing rents in the private sector.

The Rental Assistance Benefit (RAB) is intended to assist households in need to obtain affordable and suitable rental housing accommodations by subsidizing rents in the private sector.

The Rental Assistance Benefit (RAB) is administered by the Newell Housing Foundation on behalf of the Government of Alberta. The Government of Alberta and the Government of Canada are partners under the Canada Housing Benefit. This initiative is part of the National Housing Strategy and provides funding towards the Rental Assistance Benefit.

Priority is decided based on a points system in the Social Housing Accommodation Regulation. The higher points an applicant has, the higher their priority is. If your information changes at any time, please contact us and let us know – this may impact your point score.

Benefit features:

Paid directly to tenants

Available through most housing management bodies across Alberta

Households are eligible if they are below local income thresholds 

Amount is calculated based on household income and local market rent

Households are prioritized based on need

May be renewed annually
